Tips for Beautiful Skin

The number one thing to remember is not to smoke or be around second hand smoke. This is one of the quickest ways to get wrinkles and lack luster skin. Drinking plenty of water during the day will hydrate the skin and give it a dewy appearance. Drinking soft drinks and juices does not hydrate your body as well as pure water.

Don’t we all want radiant, youthful skin? Supple, glowing skin is what we strive for. Smooth skin with no blotches or spots. But what do we need to do to have healthy skin?

The number one thing to remember is not to smoke or be around second hand smoke. This is one of the quickest ways to get wrinkles and lack luster skin.

CLEANSING- Removing the days make-up and film from outdoor contaminants should be the first step in your daily routine. The face has so many sebaceous glands, which lubricate the skin, that it is important to gently cleanse the skin each day or the face will have a waxy, oily film to it.

EXFOLIATE-Dead skin cells take the luster from your skin. Cells move from the base of the epidermis to the top in a 30 day cycle. If cells aren’t exfoliated regularly they mount up and can make the skin have a dull and flat appearance. This can also cause blemishes and scaling. Don’t forget the neck.

Gently exfoliate daily for a good complexion. Using a soft brush or soft wash cloth in a round motion and then rinse in clear water. Exfoliating also helps with the penetration of other skin products.?

MOISTURIZE-Find a good moisturizer that makes your skin feel soft. On the face start at the forehead with upward strokes out to the temples. Then using thumb and middle finger stroke outward on upper eye lids and inward on the bottom ones. Stroking softly for the skin of the bottom lids is very sensitive. Round strokes on the cheeks. And don’t forget to moisturize the neck.

SUN-Wear protective clothing head to foot and avoid the sun from 10a. until 4p. Sun exposure can cause freckles, age spots, wrinkles, and rough and dry skin. Use sunscreen when ever you plan to be in the sun.

WATER-Long showers should be avoided. These wash away natural oils. Absorb as much steam as you can instead. And use warm rather than hot water. Gently pat your skin dry so that some moisture remains on the skin.

Drinking plenty of water during the day will hydrate the skin and give it a dewy appearance. Drinking soft drinks and juices does not hydrate your body as well as pure water.

HEALTHY DIET- You are what you eat. You may have heard this before and thought it cute but if your skin doesn’t get the right nutrients it can become dull and splotchy.

The vitamins and minerals needed for healthy skin are:

Vitamin A-Prevents premature aging and outside free radicals which can cause wrinkles. The best sources of this are broccoli, sweet potatoes and spinach.

Vitamin B-prevents breakouts and reducing the risk of dermatitis. It is found in whole grains and nuts.

Vitamin C- Stimulates collagen production under the skin which helps firm and plump the skin. This will minimize existing wrinkles. It can be found in broccoli, cabbage, and citrus.

Vitamin E- An antioxidant that helps to protect cells underneath the surface from being damaged by sun and pollution. It is found in avocados and nuts.

Iron-This mineral strengthens the immunity to reduce breakouts and revitalizes the complexion. Found in grains and cereals, beans and lentils.

Selenium- This mineral reduces free radicals and neutralizes wrinkles made by smoking, sun and pollution. This can be found in seafood, poultry, brown rice and nuts.

Bromelain -Speeds up the healing in the body and reduces swelling. Can be found in pineapple.

Zinc- Very important in quickly healing wounds. Also increases collagen production and works as an astringent. It constricts the skin and tightens the pores so the complexion looks smoother. It can be found in turkey, crab, salmon and pork.
